The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), in collaboration with the City of Johannesburg, has officially commenced Phase 2 of the Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre — a transformative project aimed at empowering the local community through access to education, technology, and development opportunities.
At the heart of this new phase lies the construction of a cutting-edge 806m² library and learning centre, envisioned as a catalyst for academic excellence, digital inclusion, and socio-economic advancement. The facility will serve as a knowledge hub, promoting a culture of reading, research, digital access, and skills development — critical components for building sustainable, future-ready communities.
This new development builds on the successful delivery of Section 1 of the project, which focused on recreational infrastructure. The completed facilities include soccer, basketball, and swimming courts, a grandstand, ablution blocks, a guardhouse, and caretaker’s quarters. These amenities have already enhanced the quality of life in Kaalfontein, offering residents a safe and dynamic environment for sports, wellness, and community gatherings.
As construction progresses on the new learning centre, the JDA has reaffirmed its commitment to equitable urban development that prioritises long-term social impact.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to follow updates on the project by engaging with the JDA on Twitter @JDA_joburg and the City of Johannesburg, as they jointly work towards the completion of this pivotal community asset.
