Orange Farm Unveils New Public Transport Hub Enhancing Mobility in Region G

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) has officially completed the Orange Farm Public Transport Facility, a major infrastructure milestone that is set to significantly transform mobility and urban access in Region G.

Located at the intersection of Link Road and St Patrick’s Road, the facility was implemented by the JDA on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Transport. It forms part of the broader municipal vision to develop inclusive, safe, and sustainable transport infrastructure that caters to the evolving needs of all residents.

A Transport Facility Designed for Equity and Access

The Orange Farm hub is a modern, purpose-built structure tailored to support the daily operations of both commuters and public transport operators. It reflects thoughtful urban planning principles with a particular emphasis on universal design — ensuring it remains accessible to women, children, and persons with disabilities.

Key infrastructure elements include:

  • Designated holding and loading bays for minibus taxis and buses
  • Vehicle wash bays for maintenance
  • Parking facilities for private vehicles
  • Trader stalls for local economic activity
  • Ablution facilities (inclusive of male, female, and disability-accessible restrooms)
  • A public square and seating area to enhance the commuter experience

Building Safer Cities Through Infrastructure

This development is more than a transit point; it is a public space with a civic function, designed to improve safety, promote economic inclusion, and support environmental sustainability. By centralising and formalising transport operations, the JDA and the City of Johannesburg aim to reduce congestion, improve service delivery, and empower communities through better access to opportunity.

The Orange Farm Public Transport Facility stands as a testament to the city’s ongoing commitment to mobility justice and strategic infrastructure investment — essential components in building a connected and resilient Johannesburg.
