Premier Panyaza Lesufi Urges Gauteng Youth to Apply for R4,000/Month Teaching Assistant Roles

Johannesburg, South Africa — Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has issued a clarion call to the province’s unemployed youth to apply for the National Teacher Assistant Programme, a government-backed initiative offering 30,000 placements in Gauteng alone. This opportunity forms part of the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention, supported by the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Employment and Labour, and is aimed at equipping young South Africans with valuable work experience in the education sector.

“All Gauteng unemployed young people. Please don’t miss this opportunity. This is a national initiative but almost 30,000 young people from GP can benefit as Teacher Assistants earning R4,000 per month,” wrote Premier Lesufi on X (formerly Twitter).

Participants selected for the programme will receive:

  • R4,000.00 monthly stipend
    (Subject to 1% UIF deduction)
  • R30 monthly data allowance

These stipends are intended to support young people as they gain hands-on experience and contribute to learner support and academic excellence in South African schools.
