Fochville, South Africa — The Gauteng Department of e-Government joined forces with local stakeholders on the ground this week at the Fochville Anti-Crime Campaign, hosted at the Wedela Community Hall. The initiative forms part of a wider provincial effort to combat crime, promote public safety, and deepen digital inclusion by equipping residents with technological tools that enhance their personal security.

A key focus of the Gauteng e-Government team’s visit was to assist residents with downloading, installing, and understanding the functionality of the Gauteng e-Panic Button, a mobile-based emergency response application designed to enable users to call for rapid assistance in high-risk situations.
The Gauteng e-Panic Button, available for download via smartphones, offers residents a direct line to law enforcement and emergency responders at the touch of a button. The application is part of the province’s broader smart safety infrastructure under Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s vision to harness digital innovation to protect vulnerable communities and enhance public service delivery.
Throughout the engagement, residents expressed appreciation for the proactive outreach, noting the importance of having immediate access to emergency support, especially in areas where response times can be critical.
