TMPD Communication Unit Supports Road Safety Initiative at Chep Brambles in Rosslyn

As part of national Road Safety Week efforts, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Communication Unit joined employees at Chep Brambles in Rosslyn for an on-site educational initiative aimed at enhancing road safety awareness within the industrial workforce.

The event was hosted by Chep Brambles, a global logistics solutions company with a strong operational presence in South Africa’s automotive and supply chain sectors. Given its location in Rosslyn — one of Gauteng’s major industrial nodes — the initiative was particularly significant in addressing the commuting risks and on-site vehicle movements that employees face daily.

The campaign aligns with the broader goals of the South African National Road Safety Strategy 2016–2030, which prioritises workplace engagement as a critical lever in reducing the country’s high rate of road traffic injuries and fatalities. According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), human error — including speeding, fatigue, and lack of seatbelt use — remains a leading contributor to road accidents, making proactive awareness campaigns vital to preventative efforts.

The TMPD Communication Unit played a key role in disseminating educational material, reinforcing the importance of safe driving habits such as adherence to speed limits, proper vehicle maintenance, and the use of seatbelts and safety equipment. The officers also highlighted specific risks facing workers in logistics environments, where forklifts, trucks, and frequent vehicle movement can pose serious hazards if not properly managed.

Such initiatives demonstrate the department’s ongoing commitment to public safety beyond traditional law enforcement functions. By collaborating with industry stakeholders, TMPD is able to reach communities where the intersection of transport and occupational safety is most immediate.

The event served not only to educate but also to foster a culture of shared responsibility between the public and private sectors in addressing South Africa’s road safety challenges.
