Steve Biko Academic Hospital Infrastructure Team Reviews Construction Progress at Lyttelton Primary School

The Steve Biko Academic Hospital’s Infrastructure “A-Team,” led by project manager Collen Baloyi, conducted an on-site inspection at Lyttelton Primary School today to monitor ongoing construction work on new classrooms, ablution facilities, book storage areas, and computer laboratories.

The team reported measurable progress across key areas, including electrical installations, interior painting, and ramp excavation at Block E. Additionally, sewerage pipes were successfully delivered on 29 October 2025, marking another milestone in the project’s infrastructure rollout.

However, several challenges remain. Persistent roof leakages, incomplete screeding, and a shortage of contractor staff have delayed construction timelines. As a result, the handover of Blocks D and E has been postponed to 30 November 2025, following financial constraints faced by the contractor.

According to the latest site data, overall project completion stands at 17%. The A-Team has pledged to intensify oversight, accelerate roofing and flooring work, and ensure timely delivery of all remaining structures to improve the school’s learning environment.

This initiative forms part of the #TacklingG13 campaign under the #GrowingGautengTogether provincial infrastructure programme, aimed at enhancing education infrastructure and public service facilities across Gauteng.
