Yesterday, MEC Motara visited Riverside View—situated near Steyn City and Diepsloot—to film an episode of the national housing program Breaking New Ground (SABC2).
Riverside View is one of Gauteng’s most significant mixed‑tenure housing developments. It offers over 10,000 residential units, including fully subsidized BNG (Breaking New Ground) housing as well as FLISP (Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme) houses and other mid‑income options.
MEC Motara emphasized that the project is more than just houses. She stressed that Riverside View is designed to bring families closer to employment centers, schools, and transport links—helping to bridge socio-economic divides between affluent and underserved areas. The development, she said, gives life to the vision of the Freedom Charter for “houses, security, and comfort.”

By visiting and showcasing Riverside View on the show, the Department of Human Settlements aims to demonstrate how targeted housing developments can support inclusive urban growth, strengthen communities, and offer real access to opportunity—not just a roof over one’s head.
The upcoming episode will provide viewers insight into how Riverside View is structured, how it serves different income groups, and how it fits into broader efforts to reshape urban spaces for greater equity and functionality.
