Gauteng Department of Environment Supports Schools Rowing Championships at Roodeplaat Dam
The Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (GDARDE) joined the Gauteng Schools Rowing Federation (GSRF) at Roodeplaat Dam to support the 2025 Schools Rowing Championships, held in partnership with African Rowing.

The event brought together young athletes, coaches, and environmental advocates to celebrate teamwork, discipline, and sustainability through sport. The Department’s Acting Head of Department and representatives from the Office of the MEC attended the championships, taking part in a guided tour that included the boathouse, judging station, and various competition areas.
According to officials, the Department’s participation underscores the link between environmental stewardship and youth development. The partnership with African Rowing also reflects a shared commitment to protecting aquatic ecosystems while promoting healthy and active lifestyles among young people.

The day concluded with an awards ceremony honouring the winners of the African Rowing Championships, where the Department joined stakeholders in recognising the achievements of the participating schools.
Through such events, the Department continues to highlight how sport and environmental awareness can work hand-in-hand to inspire discipline, community spirit, and respect for natural resources.
