Young South African Constable Selected for Landmark SA–Finland Youth Peace Mediators Programme

In a notable achievement for South Africa’s law enforcement, Constable Kutloano Moloi has been chosen as the first South African officer to participate in the inaugural South Africa–Finland Youth Peace Mediators Mentoring Programme. The selection highlights the growing role of young leaders in international peacebuilding initiatives.

The programme, launched in June 2025 during South Africa’s Youth Month, aims to cultivate a vibrant network of youth peace mediators. Participants are trained in conflict resolution, mediation, peace negotiations, and post-conflict reconstruction, equipping them with practical skills to contribute meaningfully to both national and global peace efforts.

Out of thousands of applicants worldwide, Constable Moloi was among 15 participants chosen in a competitive process jointly conducted by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s (DIRCO) Diplomatic Academy and Finland’s Centre for Peace Mediation. The programme fosters cross-cultural exchange and provides young mediators with international exposure to best practices in conflict management.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola congratulated Constable Moloi, commending the officer for exemplifying the SAPS values of service, integrity, and professionalism. Masemola noted that such recognition underscores the potential of young law enforcement personnel to influence positive societal change both locally and internationally.

Constable Moloi’s selection reflects a broader commitment by South Africa to engage youth in leadership roles within peace and security sectors, and aligns with the country’s efforts to support sustainable peace, social cohesion, and international collaboration.
