Gauteng Strengthens Trade and Investment Ties with Egypt

Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Lebogang Maile, met with the Egyptian Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Ahmed Sharief, to deepen economic cooperation between the province and Egypt.

The meeting focused on advancing bilateral trade and investment partnerships that align with Gauteng’s goals of stimulating industrial growth, attracting foreign investment, and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

Egypt remains one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, with strong sectors in manufacturing, renewable energy, and logistics. Strengthening ties with Cairo offers new pathways for Gauteng businesses to expand into North African markets and for Egyptian investors to tap into Gauteng’s strategic position as South Africa’s economic hub.

The engagement also supports Gauteng’s Growing Gauteng Together 2030 vision, which prioritizes regional trade integration and inclusive economic transformation.

According to MEC Maile, the province is “open for business” and committed to building a stronger Africa-to-Africa investment network that benefits both economies.
