Crime Imbizo Feedback Session: Provincial Government Addresses Safety and Service Delivery Concerns in Haakdoornboom

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety, led by Premier Panyaza Lesufi, held a community engagement session in Haakdoornboom, Tshwane, to provide feedback on issues raised during the Crime Imbizo held earlier this year on 29 March 2025.

Residents had previously expressed frustration over persistent challenges such as high crime rates, infrastructure damage, cable and stock theft, illegal mining, road spiking, corruption, and inadequate service delivery. The recent feedback session aimed to update the community on progress made and reinforce the province’s commitment to restoring safety and stability.

Premier Lesufi emphasised the importance of a coordinated approach to rural development and safety. He reiterated that law enforcement efforts across Gauteng will continue to be strengthened to curb criminal activity and enhance public confidence in the justice system.

During the session, various departments provided progress reports. The Tshwane Roads and Transport Department, represented by Mr Jaco Visser, reported notable improvements in the Haakdoornboom area, particularly in gravel road maintenance and pothole repairs. The department’s focus has been on restoring key routes that facilitate community access and local mobility.

The Department of Education also presented updates on measures taken to ease overcrowding in schools. As part of its immediate response, mobile classroom units were deployed to several institutions, including Madirsong, Kondelani, Soshanguve Secure Centre, Soshanguve Secondary, Bokamoso, and Mavumbuka. These additions have helped schools accommodate growing learner numbers while ensuring that teaching and learning continue without disruption.

The engagement forms part of the provincial government’s broader commitment to inclusive governance and accountability, ensuring that community concerns raised during public platforms like the Crime Imbizo are actively addressed through tangible action and sustained follow-up.
