The political movement Unite for Change has officially opened its candidate applications for the 2026 Local Government Elections, marking a significant step in its mission to promote ethical and accountable leadership at the local level.
The announcement was made during a launch event held in Parliament, where activists, supporters, and community leaders gathered to endorse a new generation of public representatives. According to Eyewitness News, the event aimed to encourage citizens with integrity and proven community service records to stand for local office.
As reported by IOL, the movement invited South Africans who are committed to ethical governance to “step forward and lead with heart.” The campaign calls on changemakers ready to address issues of accountability, service delivery, and local empowerment.
Unite for Change has partnered with allied movements including Build One SA, Rise Mzansi, and For Good SA to strengthen grassroots participation. The group emphasises that leadership should emerge from active community involvement rather than traditional party structures.
Speaking to the Sowetan, organisers said the candidate application process would be transparent and merit-based, focusing on individuals with proven records of service and integrity.
Applications can be completed through the movement’s website, where interested individuals can submit their details and motivation to represent their communities in the upcoming elections.
