SA and Botswana Police Conclude Joint Operation Targeting Cross-Border Crime

Police in the Northern Cape have wrapped up a joint operation with law-enforcement counterparts in Botswana aimed at reducing crime along the shared border. The four-day operation, held from 27 to 30 November, focused on offences that affect both countries, including stock theft, human trafficking, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes.

Teams carried out roadblocks, border patrols, and searches on both sides of the boundary line. According to the South African Police Service, officers stopped and searched 209 vehicles and 644 people. Two individuals were arrested for violating immigration laws, and traffic fines totalling R2,000 were issued.

Police also searched several premises in South Africa and conducted compliance checks at tuck shops, liquor outlets and farms near the border. Officials said the operation strengthened cooperation between the two countries and supported efforts to keep border communities safe.

The SAPS described the joint work as part of its ongoing strategy to improve security through coordinated policing with neighbouring states.
