The Border Management Authority has intensified its operations along South Africa’s northern border, resulting in the interception of illegal migrants attempting to enter the country through bush paths near the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The operation took place on 5 January 2026 and was led by the Commissioner of Border Management Authority SA, together with the Beitbridge Port of Entry command team under Port Commander Ntakuseni Lambani. Officials were deployed on the ground in known illegal crossing areas outside the formal port infrastructure.
Using surveillance technology and coordinated patrols, officers detected and intercepted 25 undocumented migrants who were attempting to bypass official border controls by moving through the surrounding bushes. Authorities confirmed that the individuals were processed in line with immigration laws.

The Border Management Authority said the operation demonstrates the growing impact of technology-driven border security. Tools such as surveillance systems and real-time monitoring are increasingly being used to identify illegal crossings and improve response times in high-risk areas.
Officials stressed that illegal entry poses risks to national security and undermines regulated migration systems. They added that continued enforcement is essential to protecting South Africa’s borders while ensuring lawful and humane immigration management.
The Border Management Authority reaffirmed its commitment to securing ports of entry and border lines through integrated operations, partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, and the expanded use of modern technology. Similar operations are expected to continue along key border corridors in the coming weeks.
