Gauteng Infrastructure Team Inspects Upgrade Project at St Ansgars Combined School

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development has conducted a site inspection at St Ansgars Combined School in Randburg as part of its ongoing oversight of school infrastructure projects across the province.

The inspection was carried out by the department’s A-Team to assess construction progress, identify potential challenges early, and ensure that safety and quality standards are maintained throughout the project. Officials said the visit forms part of routine monitoring aimed at keeping projects on schedule and fit for purpose.

The project at St Ansgars Combined School focuses on upgrading and modernising key facilities to improve the learning environment. Planned improvements include the installation of new mobile classrooms, refurbishment of existing learning spaces, upgraded ablution facilities, and enhancements to electrical, sewer and stormwater systems.

According to the department, construction is progressing well, with several core activities already underway. Teams on site are giving priority to addressing identified risks that could affect learners and staff, including asbestos removal and site condition challenges. These interventions are being handled in line with safety regulations ahead of the school’s reopening.

The department emphasised that learner and educator safety remains central to the project. Early identification and management of risks are intended to prevent delays and ensure that facilities are safe and functional once construction is complete.

Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development confirmed that regular inspections will continue as the project advances. The department said the upgrades form part of broader efforts to improve public school infrastructure and support quality education across Gauteng.

St Ansgars Combined School is among several schools currently benefiting from infrastructure investment aimed at creating safer, more resilient learning environments for communities.
