The South African Police Service arrested three Mozambican nationals at the Snake Park informal settlement near Rustenburg on 5 January 2026. The suspects, aged 19, 30, and 36, are facing serious criminal charges.
Police said two of the suspects were first detained after being found in possession of a vehicle hijacked in the Bokamoso informal settlement near Rustenburg in December 2025. Further investigation led officers to another address in the area, where a third suspect was arrested. He was found in possession of explosives.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on 7 January 2026. They face charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of explosives. Authorities said investigations are ongoing, and additional charges may be brought as more evidence is collected.
Police emphasised that the arrests form part of continued efforts to combat vehicle hijacking and the illegal possession of dangerous substances in the region.
